AJAX UI Tabs

I can't understand the documentation associated with the UI tabs and was hoping someone here would be able to enlighten me.

I'm building myself a dynamic design portfolio, but I want to use AJAX to reduce the need for page reloading. The final design can be seen here.

But I have provided a mock up which will help me better explain the problem.

The green links should dynamically change the tab of the white box.

The purple arrows should dynamically change the tab of the red box.

Clicking the red box should change the tab of the white box.

How should I go about setting this up? Is it even possible?
