I have similar thought. Because QR code are really popular in our country recently, so I want to develop a qr code-related app. The problem is that I am a newcomer for qr code. So do I really need buy some barcode generator or barcode reader? I have to weigh tha cost and benefits before I start to develop my app. Thank you so much.

However you cannot READ QR codes with a Jquery Mobile application unless you use something like Phonegap or do native applications.

Do you need to scan multiple codes or is it a one-to-one scan-to-run? Do you have control over what's in the code?

Typically a code can contain a uri. You scan it with any generic scanning app and it passes the uri to the phone's browser which then loads the web page/app. If you need to scan multiple codes, you might could create a web service to handle them.

If you want to access the phone's hardware directly or scan something other than a uri, you will need to use a native app for the phone and it will have to acquire the proper permissions.
