create a txt file with ajax and php

Hey everyone,

i want to write a Script which creates a txt file with some user entered variables.

The communication between the script and my HTML Document with ajax works fine.

But i have some problems with the creation of the file.

Maybe someone find a small mistake in my script...

$content = "test without variables";
$savename = "test.txt";
$file = fopen($savename, "w");
fwrite($file, $content);
fclose($file);
echo $savename;
?>

And the JavaScript Part:

$("#mybutton").click(function(){
$.post("generate-txt.php",
{postname:name,postplc2:plc},
function(data){
top.location.href = data;
});
});

I always just get a 404 Error, because the Script can't create the file.

Looks like a PHP problem. Creating a file in the main web directory is probably going to fail.

Use the debugger built into all modern browsers to see what was in the AJAX response. It’s probably errors.

Why are you bothering to use AJAX when all you do is discard the page and try to display the results?

Creating a file in the main web directory is probably going to fail.

I also tried to use a sub-directory with all read- and write-rights.

Use the debugger built into all modern browsers to see what was in the AJAX response. It’s probably errors.

The debugger give me just the 404 Error and some warnings for the viewport meta. unfortunately no helpfully informations from the console.

That's a good question

i just use it for a loading bar... i thought it would be easier, because nearly the whole part of the page is written in javascript. Would you prefer another way?

loading bar? Whatever that is. Were you getting loaded at a bar when you thought of this?

Hey!

i tested it and everything worked fine between this two files.

And after a long search i also found the mistake for the problem with the creation of the file....

it was a mistake with any server settings. pretty difficult for me.

For everyone with the same problem:

I just wrote a php.ini file with the following line

allow_url_fopen=on

Silly mistake!
