It looks like the width of the span that holds the icon has been overridden. Try adding this CSS (or removing/restricting your current override):

1. .ui-datepicker .ui-datepicker-prev span, .ui-datepicker .ui-datepicker-next span { width: 16px; }

Thanks for your help. I did solve this late yesterday. I had a plain span setting in my css file which I changed so it was not plain, and now it did function well.
