Hi,

I have form with the several input fields .

The field name partNo with value of being entered from the customer with either of of the value below.

28D1G1-213C11 H000S0

78E1K0-298A11 J000S0

20D2K3-238C21 G000S0

52D1J0-274A11 E000S0

Depends on the value above and takes left 14 characters

first one is H

scond one is J,

third one is G

fourth one is E

partNo: <input type ="text" name="partNo" id="partNo"><br>

field 1: <input type ="text" name="field1" id="field1"><br>

field 2: <input type ="text" name="field1" id="field2"><br>

fiel 3: <input type ="text" name="field1" id="field3"><br>

field 4: <input type ="text" name="field1" id="field4"><br>

</form>

if find H, then field 1 is required

elseif find J, then field 2 is required

elseif find G then fiel 3 is requied

elseif fiend E then field 4 is required.

How can i complished this on jquery?

If you need to do a lot of validation, consider using a plugin, like jQuery.validate .

If you just need to do a little:

- Learn to use jQuery selectors. They will be very handy to do all of the below. e.g. $('#partNo') will find your partNo input, and then you can apply functions to it like .change() and .val().

- Use .change() to run a callback function when an input changes.

- Use .val() to retrieve the value of an input.

- Use Javascript string processing functions to examine the values.

- Use an alert() or (much better) some popup or dialog plugin, or (I like this best) insert some red text right next to the input alerting the user to the error. You can use jQuery dom-manipulation function to do the latter.
