Editor needs "clear formating" button, and "html editing" feature

This little "wysywig" editor is getting in a way when one does copy/paste into it.
especially when one wants to insert some source code ... into the middle of existing code in the post.
formating gets taken-in and the current code is screwed. Google docs has very useful "clear formating" button for that.
Also ability to edit HTML behind would solve this and all the other similar issues ..

Plain-text editors are much more effective on these kinds of forums. A Markdown editor like the one on the SO trinity (it's forked from WMD) would be absolutely wonderful.
One of the main ideas of having this editor is to avoid "learning" new syntax just to get a point across.
Today, we have thrown in fixes and enhancements to the editor to suit code intensive forums like this one. Among the changes you will find that
- Nested code blocks have been removed.
- Copy paste induced code block inconsistencies have been fixed
- A View code link has been added. It will come up near all code blocks and give you a clear, unformatted copyable code snippet.
However, inline code elements have not yet been introduced. If you find issues with this round of fixes, please get back by posting here.

Dhan, I pasted your post bellow... oops, what is that ? it came out as some large font which I can not control ? Catch my drift ? I neeed to be able to to rudimentary formating of my posts. Right now, I can not do even rudimentary formating. Like I can (for example) in WordPress, or in Google Docs. Without learning any "new syntax", over there, all is done through simple toolbars. This one above (in Zoho forum) is too simplistic.
Also. This is a forum for specific group of people. 99% of them know HTML and JavaScript.
Just give us ability to edit HTML "behind", and all will be solved. Just like *every* other simillar "wisywig" on the www does today ...

I get where you are getting at. We are in the process of providing an additional tool button to remove formating. That should resolve this particular issue you face.
But I am intrigued, what in your system config (browser, OS / other settings) caused just a copy paste to look so wierd!!!

The copy paste looks ok to me... It will help immensely if you can let me know how you did the copy paste? So that we can figure out what went wrong in your particular instance.

Dhan, thanks for your efforts. But they are somewhat missaligned. You are missing the point. I am sure lot of people on this forum will agree, that we need (completely ?) different editor. The one WordPress is using (I sent you an image) would be a minimum. The (one of the) best solutions is one that stackoverflow.com is using. (yes, with "Markdown" syntax).

Thanks for sharing the info about your browser / os info. I was neither defending, nor sounding confused... but as you can see in my copy+paste attempt (done on Chrome 4.0.249.78 beta (36714)), but good ol' windows XP), I could not reproduce the issue you were so effortlessly creating. We need to look at why the issue is coming up in your chrome setup.

@dbjdbj If you want to remove the "code block" formatting simply click the "Insert Code" button again, while the text of the code block is selected.
