solved: Error in Beta 1: uncaught exception: cannot call methods on selectmenu prior to initialization; attempted to call method 'refresh'

My site (http://barbalex.couchone.com/evab-ch_barbalex_evab/_design/evab/index.html) works well with 1a4.1. With 1 beta 1 when it loads the appended page I get the mentioned error and the page remains white.

Is there something I can do about it or is this a bug?

You're calling the 'refresh' method before you've initialized the selectmenu. Try initializing the selectmenu before calling the 'refresh' method.

Thanks for answering.

I must be missing something really basic here. Which is not surprising, because I'm really a biologist and not a programmer. But willing to learn.

When is a selectmenu initialized? Can you point me to the right direction?

There are two reasons why the page rendered fine:

1. I reverted to 1a4.1 to be able to go on developing

2. The projekt is for people to note sightings of plants, animals, mosses, lichen and mushrooms. You only see your own sightings and you shall be able to make them available to swiss governmental nature conservation agencies. So you need to signup then log in. Then you get a list of your sightings (none at first). You note a new sighting. And when you save it, the app changes to the page that produces the error. You probably did not go this far. Also, as the project is in german

The error occured when using firefox 4 and chrome.

Ok, since I can't see where the error occurs here's what I would do:

1. Navigate within your website to where the actual bug in your code is (ie where the page remains white)
2. View the source code within that page.
3. Search for the word 'selectmenu' in the javascript code.
4. Look for:

$('#something').selectmenu("refresh");

4. Change it to:

$('#something').selectmenu();
$('#something').selectmenu('refresh');

5. Test the application and see what happens!

Oh, man, this solution ended a good 4 hours of trying to trouble-shoot this same error. Can someone please, please, please add this to the documentation (unless I completely missed it...)?
