You need to call the .trigger("expand"); You can also call .trigger("collapse") of you want.

thanks for you reply. I see I'm not clear on my intent.

I would like to keep the child collapsible collapsed until expanded. The immediate content of both parent and child collapsibles are loaded on demand. The trouble is that expansion of the child collapsible also triggers the expansion of the parent collapsible. It is this parent.expand triggering on child expand I want to prevent.
