I have loved using and themeing sites with Jquery UI, it makes changing the skin so easy. One thing that I think would be amazing, and am sure it would be a highly useful feature would be to have a few classes named ui-color-one ui-color-two etc and these can be themed along the same lines as ui-widget-header.

For example, If i want to make an alternating colour theme in a table/grid i might want to use two colours, (not in the ui-state set) to use, but can change based on the theme. Could we add in a few colours like this?

A more complicated approach could be to define two or three colours for the theme, and then have options to change the shade / opacity such as:

ui-color-one-100, ui-color-one-80, ui-color-one-60 etc

Therefore one colour can be used and varient shades of the theme colour can be used.

I've been runing into some of these limits as of late, especially working on the jQuery UI Grid. You can see my progress so far on

If you check out a local copy from github you can uncomment out the themeswitcher, or you can use the ThemeRoller Firefox bookmarklet tool ( http://jqueryui.com/themeroller/developertool/ ) to preview some other themes.

So, yeah, there are some definite limits with the current set of jQuery UI CSS Framework classes and the available levers in ThemeRoller. I'll be working closely with Filament Group this month on extending each of these, as well as with a team we've got working on the next version of ThemeRoller. So, there are some improvements in the works. Thanks for the feedback.

I wouldn't be too excited about a collection of classes that are as specific as ui-color-one-100 to specify opacity. You can add that yourself pretty easily. I would like to keep the themes as minimal as possible. If we tried to think of every possibility, we'd end up with a ui framework that is way too bulky for developers to actually use. I think our goal should be to make everything easily customizable in the code, not in a selection of classes.

Maybe that is too fine grained. Yes it would be easy to tweak the opacity ourselves. But we'd still need some basic themed colours from the UI Framework

for example

alternates two colours within the theme and will change automatically when a new theme is picked.

      <tr class="ui-color-one myClassEven"><td>Stuff</td></tr>
      <tr class="ui-color-one myClassOdd"><td>Stuff</td></tr>

the "myClassXXX" could add additional styling but is still based upon a Framework Colour

In my opinion, it would be helpful to have 4 colours specified per theme. They of course can be the same if a theme desires, but also gives more flexibility to the developer.
