Find File Dimensions before or after upload

Hello all,

I went through http://i.ndigo.com.br/2012/01/javascipt-checking-the-file-size/ where it get the total size of the file to be uploaded.

But I have a slightly different requirement. I would like to get the dimensions (width and height in mm) of the file to be uploaded or the file uploaded.

Can you please help?

Are all your files of a particular type? Images?

An image that is 4 pixels across and 4 down could be said to be 100 mm each way. It depends how they are shown.

javascript reads the raw size, so attempting to figure out mm would not work.

Now I have to add one more option. The user can upload only PDF and not other files.

So, can jQuery read the extension of and alert if it's not a PDF.

If I can get pixels I would convert it to mm, so that should not be a problem.

Please advise.

You can check what the user used as a file extension, but that is not secure or useful if the file has no extension or the user has a wrong/fake extension. And, javascript can not normally read PDF files.

This would be a job for a server language. Just upload the files and let the server figure out the size.
