suggest you look at the blog and core development forum. There is lots going on and your assessment is incorrect.

Example: do a google search for  "jquery microsoft"

not to mention the jQuery Conference this past weekend that announced the new jQuery Mobile project and the newest  minor release the jquery core library, 1.4.3, that brings with it many bug fixes and performance improvements.

But the UI development seems lagging, menu and tooltip components are in the "Ddevelopment" status for about an year, thats why I made this post.
