hoverIntent: getting items to appear faster

I am using hoverIntent as described in this article - http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2009/03/31/make-a-mega-drop-down-menu-with-jquery/
It works beautifully, except that it does not load the mega drop down menus fast enough. I can't get it to display in less than about 1 second. I want it to be almost instantaneous.
