how can I close down a browser on a click on a link?

Hi
after a user click log out I want to add a link for the user "Click Here To Close Your Browser."
I have done the following
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$('a#closeBrowser').click(function(){
window.close();
});
});
</script>
<a href="#" id="closeBrowser">Click Here To Close Your Browser.</a>
this is not working for me.
How can I get this to work?
