How to clear a FILE input in IE?

It seems using the JQuery .val() function for FILE inputs doesn't work correctly in IE. That is, I can't change the value (file name). I'm trying to clear it, using .val(''). This works in Firefox but not IE.

Is there another way to clear the value of a FILE input?

The only way I've found is to replace the field with a duplicate blank one:

if ($.browser.msie) {
$('#file').replaceWith($('#file').clone());
}
else {
$('#file').val('');
}

you can use method remove()

$(document).ready(function(){
//you can use "id" or "class" or this instead of #id_input
   $('#id_input').each(function() {
             $(this).after($(this).clone(true)).remove();
            });
})
