How to - Set Store and Get Variables????

Greetings

I'm trying to write a code to hide a element and remember which elemnt was hidden when you change page.

The site is this www.arestaviva.com

the problematic code goes like this

Problem is that once one navigates to the next page the variable is reset and lost :|

I know I'm doing something wrong but my queries on google have not proved fruitful in solving this one :\

Can you guys help me?

You need to save the language selection as a cookie or pass it along to the next page as a URL parameter in order to use it on subsequent pages.

Also, when using an ID selector, don't get the body first:

$('body').find('#alternative')...

should just be

$('#alternative')...

Could you point me in the right direction for your sugestions. I don't even know what to look for.

Is this doable with JQuery, or mus it be done with Java, or PHP?

The only way the code works is with find. otherwise the only Div that gets changed is the first one, and I have a page with multiple Divs since it loads the HTML of child pages.

IDs must be unique within a document, so there will only be one to change.

Using the jQuery cookie plugin the code might be:

$(function() {
$('#PT').click(function() {
...
$.cookie('selectedLang', this.id); // Save the language ID when clicked
});
$('#UK').click(function() {
...
$.cookie('selectedLang', this.id); // Save the language ID when clicked
});
var lang = $.cookie('selectedLang'); // Retrieve saved language ID
$('#' + lang).click(); // And reactivate
});

Dosen't work :(

This is frustrating, always hated the way html is blind :|

Any simple way to use post to append the info to the URL???

You have to use the Cookie plugin to use this code. http://plugins.jquery.com/project/Cookie

Alternatively, you can use the native document.cookie, though be warned that it requires String manipulation to save and retrieve data.

Between the 2 answers I managed to make the code work

Just had to add the path so that it propagate to all pages otherwise it was saved for each page and not the whole website :)
