Inherited this code, is there a better way

I have inherited the code in the attached doc. (tried to include it here but exceeded limits.), and, although I am very new to tablesorter, JQuery and AJAX, I can not help but feel that tablesorter is not being used quite correctly here.

The following functionality works as the developer intended:

promoTable.clear.click. (line 667)

promoTable.auto_search.click (called on line 637. Function begining on line 661)

The double click functions (lines 648 through 659)

promoTable.filtered_search.click (line 630)

All of this does what the developer intended. I am just not sure it is making use of tableSorter (line 358) and tableSorterPager (line 393) correctly. Here is why.

This code hits the DB for every sort by calling the function 'get_promo_code' (line 397in the tablesorterPager section). This seems to bypass what tablesorter is for.

Is there a way to keep all of the functionality I outlined above, but allow tablesorterPager to operate as intended for the paging and sorting? Or, because the call to 'get_promo_code' is needed for the 'Search' and 'Full Search' capabilities, am I tied to always making that call?

This is all quite new to me, so any and all help will be appreciated. Also, if anyone knows of a forum more strictly dedicated to tablesorter, please let me know. I know this is a JQuery forum and this is dealing with more than JQuery.

Rather than posting just the code, it would be more helpful if you post a link to a page that contains just enough HTML & CSS so we can see it run.

Jake,

where can I do that?

I am unable to set anything up in house for that purpose. I would need to be able to post PHP, HTML, MySQL as well as the JQuery, javascript and css in order to get a working example.

If your problem is with TableSorter, make a demo that will show the problems you are having with TableSorter. The rest is irrelevant to the problem, and off-topic for the forum. Substitute static data for any Ajax. Make a simple static HTML page.

You can use a site like jsFiddle or Plunkr to make a demo and then others can try it and propose changes.

Frankly, though, it sounds like you need to hire another developer.

Actually, after re-reading your post, it seems you already identified the problem, and it won't help to make a simple demo. But nobody is going to want to read your Word document. (What is your code doing in a Word document?)

But it seems you have already identified the problem:

It sure does. But absent a definition what get_promo_code is supposed to do, it's hard to say. But the whole idea of TableSorter is to sort the data you already have in the page in different ways.

Did you hire somebody to write this for you? Or is it something from a blog or demo, or some open-source project that you are trying to adapt to your needs?

Ah, you "inherited" it. Lucky you! ;)

You could at least post the JS and HTML to Plunkr so that people can look at it without having to load it into Microsoft Word. (No place for code!)

I'd suggest Plunkr rather than jsFiddle since jsFiddle is meant for only very simple one-page examples.

Don't post PHP. Capture the HTML that your PHP makes ("view source") and post the HTML.

jQuery and TableSorter work with the HTML, and doesn't know a thing about your PHP.

There are ways of faking the interaction with your server.

Chop it down to the minimum needed to show the relevant part. If it has nothing to do with TableSorter problems, toss it out.
