this is the code

here, frame is the parent div, text is the textfield;  here  i am trying to show the parent div over other elements. so i am using this code..

this is the parent div

 <div id="frame'"  class="parent" style="display:none;width:224px;height:130px;background-color:#FFFFFF;position:absolute;border:1px solid #585858;">

sorry, this typo which you see is editing mistake. its not in the code..  and moreover, the selector can't be off, as i told u, the div is showing itself but it slides up and then shows up again. the thing is tht it is not working correctly on the second mouse click.  

strangely, its working when i double click it...

thanks for testing, but is there a way to find the conflicting code, should i change the name  or id or some other attribute of this frame div..


i also tried the same thing on a simple html page, there it is working fine. 

one more thing i wanted to ask is that is it possible to check whether a div is being displayed or not.

i tried
$("#frame").attr('display')  and $("#frame").attr('visible')   

both values are coming undefined..

if i could get the value from any ot this, i can directly call .show() and .hide() methods..  then there wont be any problem with toggle events..

but i read somewhere that we can't use visible if we are showing and hiding any element for some reason, and we should use display property instead..

i tried this thing

alert($("#frame").attr('display') + "--" + $("#frame").attr('visible') + "--" + $("#frame".attr('visibility'));

all the values is coming undefined..

i made this code using ur method:

if(  ! ( $("#frame".is(':visible')   )  )
    {          
       $("#frame").show('slow');
       alert($("#frame").is(':visible'));
    }
else if( $("#frame").is(':visible') )
    {
       $("#frame").hide('slow');      
       alert($("#frame").is(':visible'));   
    }

but now whenever i click on the button , alert window is showing true and frame window would come up..
