Limitations to what kinds of attachments Android 2.3.3 can download in the mobile browser?

In my mobile app, I have some links to download files.

On my iPhone, I have no problem download JPG or PDF files. Both open up in a separate window.

But from my Android running 2.3.3, while the links to download JPG work fine, the links to download PDF don't work.

I also tried it from outside my mobile app by going to the "full site" and it was the same thing.

Does Android have a general problem with downloading PDF files from the mobile browser?

sadly on android you need a pdf reader app it wont automatically just open in the browser like in ios.

Right. But I'm having the additional problem that PDF attachments often will not download. For example, depending on the server, the browser might indicate "Loading..." and just get stuck there forever.
