"Load" Method doesn't work in chrome and opera? plz help me.

Hello there,

I have 2 page. one of them,is gallery.html and another one, is index.html . i want to load the content of the gallery page into <div id="content-gallery"></div> in index.html.

I use the fallowing code :

$( 'a#gallery' ).click( function()
{

$( '#content-gallery' ).load( 'gallery.html' );

});

but it works only in IE8,FF, and safari. It doesn't work in chrome and opera (latest version). In opera and chrome, when i click on <a id="gallery">show gallery</a> it show only a bank page.

I use jQuery Library v1.3.2.

How can i fix this problem?

From the jQuery API:

jQuery uses the browser's .innerHTML property to parse the retrieved document and insert it into the current document. During this process, browsers often filter elements from the document such as <html>, <title>, or <head> elements. As a result, the elements retrieved by .load() may not be exactly the same as if the document were retrieved directly by the browser.

You can try the callback function to see if the request completed:

$( '#content-gallery' ).load( 'gallery.html', function () {
window.alert('Request complete');
});

.. although this doesn't confirm the success of the request. (The callback has a textStatus parameter you might examine to verify the successful loading.)

At some stage you might have to consider using an iframe rather than a div - this is designed to receive html content.

.. I think I would firstly try the load with a very simply 'test.html' page, with some text and minimal content. At least this would confirm whether it is the content of the .html that is causing a problem. Andy.

Also make sure that you are running this on a web server. Load may not work if you try it from your local machine.

Dear 'andrewgsw' I use your solution, when i click on <a id="gallery">show gallery</a> the window.alert('Request complete'); occurred and i see "Request complete". But anything doesn't appear in the page. I firstly try to load a "test.txt" and secondary "test.html" with "Teeeeeeeesssttt" content, but it dosen't appear in chrome and opera too.

I use the fallowing code :

$.ajax({url: 'gallery.html',success:function(result){
$( '#content-gallery' ).html(result);
}});

instead of using load method. but my problem doesn't solve... .

Mr. jay.blanchard, Can i be sure when i upload my project on web server, the load method will work?

You can either install a local web server for testing (like XAMPP) or you can upload to a server to test. I know that there are issues with load working when loading files locally because load is an AJAX request - it expects a server to be there because of the XMLHttpRequest it performs.

My problem solved! I install WAMP server and put my project into www folder. When my project was run, my problem was solved.
