Hmm... but then would the text work as well then? B/c the way yours looks is that it'll be doing the actual clicking of itself, so should i make it so that that's in a script tag, and somehow do something like javascript:Function();? B/c the main reason i have it like i did was to make it simpler since i wanted the text itself on a certain part of the page the javascript itself and where it is on the page doesn't matter too much, the main thing is that it'll work.

well i wanted to load it up over the main document after it was clicked. That's why i was making it invisible, i guess i didn't anticipate the page auto-making the empty div invisible i'll try it right now.

is how the header works now and in the CSS i made sure it doesn't have the "invisible". And yet it's still not working for me... i wanted to a... well i'm sure you've seen those pages that have popup images in shadowboxes(or light boxes) i wanted to do a panel that'll load up over the document and display my TOS, and also allow logins from that same panel. I was doing this to try to make it look "more professional" so to speak.

edit: I'm beginning to doubt if jquery's even working... since it's doing nothing and yet it's supposedly all working like it should... So far i checked it on Firefox 3.5, and Chrome and neither one works.

on click. I don't want it to just show up out of the blue since it's required by the person to click it from the front page that is. Also your example works somehow... even though when i looked at it, it just had a "#" on it's actual item. And the class seems to make sense. It takes it a second to show up, but mine isn't working at all, since i'm only working on a local server it's a bit of a stretch to link to it.

Well, i added what you said, and clicking it yields no results. I also attempted to move it down from the header. So that also makes no sense to me. This ALWAYS seems to happen to me when i attempt use javascript. I don't understand why it happens but it's one of the main reasons i almost completely refuse to use it in any pages that i'm going to make. I don't know why it doesn't work here at my computer but it is just refusing to work. I have people look over the code and it still doesn't work...

After this I only see the option of putting it on-line so I can see it in action...

I really think you should just put # in the href, but come to think of it you're missing a {} from the end of function () {};

The things I noticed:

1) javascript src="jquery-1.4.1.min.js", but you have the unminified version next to it (though this could just be the zip you sent)

2) The class on the link (.link) differs from the on the jquery selector (a.mainpage). And I see that all links have the same class. I'd suggest giving a unique id on the link that will open the tos.php and then modify the selector.

For example:

The only thing I'm uncertain of is whether the reference from the current index.php making the ajax call to main/tos.php is correct, but if it is, then this really has to work!!!

are you getting any ajax calls from it? B/c if it's working for you then i'll just assume that it is. AS it doesn't have to work for me at all.

edit: I'll never understand why javascript always refuses to work for me... oh well i guess i'll just give up on javascript all together. And thus there goes a great deal of the performance of my site... at least until, someone can explain how javascript refuses to work when i attempt to use it.
