I don't have a pre-determined look I want.  I just want something that is different from the default, and that, of course, "looks good".  What "looks good"?  Well, that's precisely the reason for looking for a gallery of options, so that I can pick what looks OK to me, without having to specify it ahead of time.

The theme roller is "the gallery". You can play around with different theme settings and watch the slider appearance change in real time. Keep in mind that these are theme settings, and so they affect every other widget. If you can't make the theme roller adjust the slider settings to your liking, I would recommend creating a fiddle with a simple slider widget. Here you can write CSS to override the properties not accessible through the theme roller, to experiment with different slider looks.
