Nested list alternative now that it's deprecated

Hi all,

I use the nested list functionality a lot, and I see that it is deprecated in jQM 1.3.0 (according to the docs) and will be unsupported in future releases. I'm not sure why it is being left behind, and I'm wondering if there is now a better way to achieve that functionality.

What I hope isn't the answer is that they want us to switch to making ajax calls for every click. The nested list does a nice job of allowing a certain level of navigation without new web calls, and then rely on ajax for more substantial content.

Can anyone suggest alternatives to achieve this functionality and/or explain why the nesting is no longer going to be supported?

Replying to myself: The release notes for 1.3.0 confirm that the intended alternative is just to write more pages. It's not the answer I wanted to hear, but it does appear to be the plan:

We are depreciating the nested list feature now and will be dropping support for this in 1.4.0. Nested lists auto-generate pages based on nested UL structures but these have a number of important drawbacks. First, these generated pages complicate the AJAX navigation system and introduce a wide range of edge cases (and bugs) that make it impossible to maintain with our navigation model. Second, these dynamic pages are of limited value because they can’t be controlled without introducing a templating engine so they are not flexible enough to be useful without adding a lot of functionality.

The same effect can be achieved by creating a multi-page document which give you full control of the page layout and styles. The nested listview plugin will be removed in 1.4.0 and moved to an external repo for those that still want to access the code.
