I'm really new to jquery but today i've been experimenting with slide panels,

basically, what i want is the panels that slide down sit above the header on my page, and when a trigger is clicked in the nav, it'll pull down the relative slide, however, when the slide is already down, say the user clicked the trigger to slide down panel1, then whilst panel1 was in view they clicked to see panel2, panel2 would slide up into view. 

what i'd like is if the panel is already open, would it be possible to 'fade' the content to panel2, but when panel2 is originally opened i want it to slide down as standard? not sure if this makes a whole lot of sense!

any help is appreciated, also if anyone can point me in the direction of some jquery tutorials/references/basics etc then that'd be sweet!
