Overlay (modal) that runs during AJAX calls

I just need something that would start on ajaxStart() and to close it on ajaxComplete(). Animated GIF would be a bonus, but text versions are also welcomed.

I have found some solutions, but neither is what i am reallyl ooking for, so i am asking here.

I use Impromptu plugin on same pages where i need this, which is great for prompting things, like asking confirmation and other things, but it's not very useful as indicator.
