What kind of <object> needs to be refreshed ever 5 seconds? It takes most <object>s a second or 2 to load in the first place!

I don't have an object that needs refreshing every 5 seconds, that was just the example I found.

I am a little puzzled on the paramteter syntax for the load, part as its an embeded url

I’m glad of that! The poor little Internet thanks you! The embedded url is supposed to make it easier than the longer .ajax syntax.

Think I understand, away from my machine for a week while on a course.

I was concerened what par I returned but it looks like to me I retrun every thing that I want between the DIV tag.

this is a report I created in I report and have on jasper server.  The url contains everything to open the report with out the user having to log on to the site and navigate to the report.

After the inital load, the user wouldn't notice the report refreshing just the values changing.

wouldnt replacing the div be better?  i have one div tag that holds the whole embeded document and it fills the page.  That would just drop straight in, I don't really have any fields to update or pick apart.

It might. But it may make a bit of a blink-out when it updates. 

suddenly thought if I have a delay using set interval and ajax then when the page loads it's going to take that long before any data displays.

I would like it to retrieve the data when it loads and then every 30 minutes can a global variable be created that holds a value specifyinng how long to wait.  So it's 0 at page load and then 30 minutes after the first pass?

trying to use .load,

should I put my url in here

or

$("Dashboard").load(''UpdateUrl.php'');

where 'UpdateUrl.php', contains my full html code that I want ajax to return and display?

this is the html is the PHP file, this works fine in the document itself but is struggling the AJAX way.
thanks, I have changed the ip address and username passwords but the structure is correct.

got it sorted thanks  the example php file that returned the HTML didn't work for my object

once I wrapped in a <?php tag ?> with a echo it worked.

the example I found just had straight html tags.

It works now!!!  It has the bump and the page goes blank while it recalculates, but not to concerenred about that as I am going to change the underlying data collection.  So all my subqueries will work much much faster over the next couple of weeks.
