Problem with icons rendered using ui-icon inside a jquery UI Tab

The issue is that icons styled using ui-icon CSS class (part of jquery
UI CSS framework) do not render properly inside a Tab. I traced the
issue to a Problem Ticket - http://dev.jqueryui.com/ticket/4401.
However, this is targeted for 1.8 release and I was wondering if
anyone had seen this problem and if there are any workarounds with
jqueryui 1.7.2
