Slide transitions seem smooth on the iPhone, flash on the iPad and are a bit "jumpy/flashy" on Android

In a mobile site I'm creating, on the iPhone the slide transition between pages seems smooth.
On the iPad though they "flash" a little after the new page opens. And on an Android phone the transitions also seem to flash a bit and are sort of jumpy.
Are there any general hints for making sure the transitions seem smoother on all the devices?
Basically I'm just linking to different URLs like this in the footer:
