Slow pageload with Jquerymobile?

I just build a mobile version of our site, and we found that the mobile sites takes about 2,5 seconds before it starts to "draw" the graphics. It tells the Latency is realy bad.

Its over 3G with good reception.

Over Wifi its not that difference..

Ive got some pictures from Safaris build in "timeline", sorry if its in Swedish, dont know how to change default language in Safari, hehe.. and i think you can see thats its slower..

As you can see, it take a while before things happen.

Is it the Javascript thats slowing it down? cause it cant be the PHP or web servers (I've tested the php-script that change to mobile version)

And its the same servers.

Have anyone had the same problem?

Hey,

You are right! the Javascript JQM + Jquery = amazing slow speeds. JQM team references this many times, their goal is to make a javascript file that is consistent across all browsers even small ones. That adds up. I'm in the same boat as you. JQM is great i mean great simple effective everything i want but it kills it for me with slow speed.

I'm now going to implement http://zeptojs.com/ - it has a amazing small js file and it only concentrated on mobiles and the big 3 iphone/android/blackberry. Since we are building for mobile we don't need all the other junk or js functions for IE7 or 8 etc etc

Problem is that Jquery-mobile is so nice, haha..

Its so simple, but i guess its a negative thing also..

But i guess if i render the HTML without jquerymobile it loads faster?

Cause Ikea uses jquerymobile, and their site is pretty fast, maybe they have the resource to customize the way they want it.

I would urge caution with Zepto. It's actually been benchmarked as SLOWER than jQuery. But it will depend specifically on what you are doing.

If you are looking for a faster alternative, I think that jq.mobi might be more suitable than Zepto.

JQM can be fast. You just have to avoid the more gnarly widgets. (Like listview.)

I solved most of the rendering-woes by

a) pre-assembling marked-up widgets server side = pass finished HTML
b) modify JQM to "trigger("createBindOnly"), so widgets are not re-enhanced

That actually renders pretty fast.

Now, this would be a great product for Adobe or one of the other project sponsors (or, anyone, really) to create.

A companion editor or CMS or script or plugin for an existing product, etc. etc. etc. that will take pages marked-up with standard JQM markup (mix of data- attributes and classes) and produce pre-rendered pages that don't require client-side enhancement but only binding.

This would be great for people creating native apps. Or, really, anybody else that cares about performance.

You can still use "traditional" JQM then for prototyping, and you have the full power of JQM when creating dynamic content.

You could probably cobble something together with one of the "display-less browsers" (not sure what the terminology is) like, for example, what Google now uses to "read" dynamic sites or that are used in automated website testing. (They basically use a web browser engine without rendering to a display, fake user input, etc.)

I thought that disabling enhancements would slow down the framework, I recall that I have read it somewhere in the docs, but I properbly wrong. Can you advise how to do the above?
