Top of page without scrolling

I already have a function that uses animate to scroll to the top of the page.
I have a feeling that this will become tiresome after a while and would like to compare it to a direct to top of page function, just like '#'.
I still want to use javascript to do this as it sits inside an ajax panel.
Can anyone tell me what method can be used that works in all browsers.
