Which book to use?

Hi,

I'm using JQuery alredy but will improve it's use in the near future.

That's why I want to tell Santa Claus

that I'd like to have a good JQuery book.

I alredy found a thread here about this topic, but it is 3 years old so there might be newer books out there.

What do I expect from the book?

- It should introduce JQuery (explain the concepts, what can I do with JQuery and what can't be done with JQuery (yet)).

- It should provide (working) examples.

- It should be written in English (although I'm German I prefer reading manuals and tutorials in English, since most of the time these books are more up-to-date).

- It should describe the Advanced features (like writing plugins for example) too, although I will need these topics later.

- It should be used as a reference too (This point is not that important, since an up-to-date reference I'll always find in the www, comparing to a good book).

Which book do you recommend?

For beginners I recommend Applied jQuery;

Applied jQuery may be very good (I wouldn't know, I haven't looked at it), but to promote it without declaring your interest (lurkers: he's the author) is just completely inappropriate. All you had to do was add "(of course I do, I wrote it!)" or some such and you'd've been fine.

I'll second Jay's thumbs up for JQuery In Action, it was a great book and explained things in such a way that you knew why they worked not just how to do it.

Three years is pretty old, especially for a book thread, I had suggested a forum for books, tutorials, and the like (https://forum.jquery.com/topic/book-tutorial-review-forum) but if there is that little call for it here I can see why it didn't go anywhere.

The problem with a forum or listing of books is that they very quickly become out of date, just like any other programming book teaching about a framework that is constantly changing.

True, but you have that anywhere. I only suggested it since I though a lot of people might come here looking for that sort of thing. Since there has only been the one request though, I guess it isn't looked for as much as I thought it would be.
