Weird! I just did a test with this: function testing(s) { $('#control').html(s); } <div id="control">this is the control DIV</div> <input type="button" value="why do you hate me" onclick="testing('jquery? Why do you hate me?');"> <input type="button" value="maybe you don't hate me!" onclick="testing('wait...maybe you don\'t have me!');"> And it works just fine. I know this has been asked before, and I've looked over each of those threads but can't seem to get a solid answer. So here goes: I have this line of code which works as is. It accepts a string and puts that string as the innerHTML of a div. function changeMe(coords) { document.getElementById("playerCoords").innerHTML = name; } Based on reading the discuss forum, I've tried updating that line with these lines, none of which work: $('#playerCoords').html(coords); // returns the error "$("#playerCoords")

[jQuery] easy/quick css inheritance?
Is there a "jQuery way" to clone/copy the css styling of an element into another element? In particular, I'd like to copy an elements position, left, top, margin, and padding values -- must I chain these? Further, I'd like to apply the styling to a wrapping <div>, e.g. $(element_CSS_to_clone).wrap("<div style='CLONED CSS'></div>"); possible? Also, a quick ?: about chainging; are the chains executed procedurally from left to right? My test (shown below) seems to indicate so. $('#test').css({width:
[jQuery] Creating CSS Classes via JavaScript
I see that a lot of the time CSS styling is defined using $("foo").css(). I think it is better to use addClass instead (although it is less flexible). I have built a function that enables you to create your own classes via JavaScript, and then you could use them instead. However it does not work in Opera (due to it not supporting document.styleSheets, although I haven't tested Opera 9), but I am interested to know if it works in browsers other than Firefox or IE (like Safari or Konqueror). [jQuery] Plugin validation
You've right. Having code rules is mandatory. But more than rules, there is a need for a specific area (may be a forum) in which you can post plugin to the community in order to ask for tests and validations. So the community can look at the source code based on curiosity and keeping in mind the specific jquery rules and can test the plugin in various browser and css context. After tests period, the plugin is considered to be certified and can be post in an official repository and can be load in

[jQuery] Selecting individual Elements with $()
Hi there, i was wondering if there is a nicer way to select one single element in jQuery ala prototype $('testid').value for example gives me the value. I understand jQuery gets always a Object Wrapper so $('#testid').get(0).value would give me the same as the protoype $() function. But since i use # to just get that id could i then not get the element instead of the object wrapper. I explicitly tell jquery i just want one object with that id so it might give me back that object.. $('#testid').value

OK, next question; I'm trying to duplicate a form so that it can be used in multiple places on one page, but I don't know how to reference the form that's being submitted in the function that follows. For example, I have a <div> with a class within each <form>, that I update with a success/failure message from the script the form .load()s. $('.simplesubscribe').submit( function(){ $("div.SubscribeSuccess").html("Please enter an email address."); }); How do I change it so that the div I update
