Hit return does not perform "Search jQuery"
Why do we have to click the search magnify glass image to perform a search ? Surely you should be able to just type string and hit return to do search ? Using firefox 3.5.7 on Ubuntu 9.10 Dave
New jQuery Forum
Hey Everyone - So we're in the progress of setting up the new jQuery Forum (as you can see here). We're moving away from using Google Groups, due to the excessive problems that we've had with it. On top of this we see an opportunity to combine some of the disparate jQuery discussion communities (namely the jQueryHelp.com forum). We analyzed a number of forum solutions and so far we've found Zoho Discussions to be far and away the best. Not only that but the Zoho team has been incredibly accommodating
Pining for a mailing list interface to the forum
I see the benefits of moving to a forum and could really get to love the searching, archiving, and thread metadata that this place offers over Google Groups, but one feature I'm pining after is the mailing list interface. I'm used to having my own copy of the list archives, being able to scan through topics offline, track what I've read, and read from and write to the list from my mail editor of choice. I would love to be able to get the full text of every message post by email and be able to respond
Issues on Watchlist page
Just a few things I noticed on the Watchlist page (see attached screenshot). The "Sub forums (0)" tab doesn't gracefully span two lines The info message in the yellow states "Here, you see give of the most recent activities for the past ten days." however it lists more than five and from farther back than ten days. It'd be really nice is this page sorted topics by last reply.
jQuery Documentation isn't as easy to read
I know I'll probably get kicked for saying this but I found the older documentation easier (faster) to skim through. The initial left navigation is what I miss most. The moment you click on one of the links that left navigation expands on the following page. Not sure the bigger fonts help much either in the main body.
"Most Popular" aging
The posts in the "Most Popular" area at left seem to be based only on total number of posts. That tends to keep some really old posts around forever and tempt people to resurrect them. Is there some way to age those out somehow so we'll see more recent threads in that area?
Remember Topic Filters
I often browse a forum by "Unanswered Topics" so I can try to address those who haven't been helped yet. Once I reply, I click the forum link in the breadcrumb at the top, but it takes me back to the unfiltered post listing. I image that for most this is ideal - it would be annoying if you forgot you had a topic filter turned on, after all - but a quick link back to the topic listing with the topic filter intact would be great. I realize hitting my browser's back button would achieve this, but then
Guest posts have been disabled
When we set up the forum we left guest posting turned on. As we were going through the daily moderation duties we were getting inundated with guest posts that we needed to constantly approve. It was turning into a full time job. In addition we were finding many double posts in the moderation queue. One from guest then immediately one from a logged in user. What was happening was the poster didn't know they were logged out till after they posted. Finally, it was getting to the point were the
Links have _blank in editor but open in same window.
Using Chrome, when I insert a link, it is set to open in _blank by default. But when I click the link after posting, it still opens in the same browser window. I'll check if it's ok in FF. (Chrome, written manually, appears to work): www.google.com Seems to work here, but in another post by myself, it is broken: http://forum.jquery.com/topic/jquery-data-or-html5-data-xxx#14737000000696061 -- Aivo --
Filters for UNanswered questions and UNsolved problems
Shouldn't there be filters in the forum for UNanswered questions and UNsolved problems? Are those not the ones needing attention the most? Or are they hiding in here somewhere?
Make the forum-select menu bigger
There is a menu for selecting a sub-forum at the top of overview pages. Its just not big enough to show all entries, so that I have to scroll down to see eg. "About the jQuery forum". There doesn't seem to be any drawback to just making it a little bit bigger, removing the need for the scroll bar.
New forums don't work with javascript off
I know it's a javascript oriented site, but I just thought it might be worth pointing out that if you have JS disabled several important things don't work, such as user login! I was testing how a page degrades without javascript and forgot to turn it back on before coming here and found clicking the green Sign In button didn't do anything, while the one in the blue tool bar took you to a page that didn't work. Also the page is initially blank if javascript is off until you click one of the forum
Markdown as an optional input method?
Would it be possible for us forum users to (optionally) trade in the WYSIWYG editor, for a simple Markdown intrepeter? ...StackOverflow uses Markdown for all of its `<textareas>`. Would make a lot of users happy, I'm sure. -- Már
jQuery forum navigation
I'm using Internet Explorer 8. When I click on a post to read it, and then want to return to the last page, I'm having problems. There's no 'breadcrumbs' feature to allow me to easily back up. I tried just using the browser navigation, but clicking on the back button doesn't work properly. I have to click several times to get the navigation for this site to respond. This issue does not occur at other sites, so it's not just the browser. Also, it would be nice if pressing 'Enter' after filling in
Plugin development forum?
Is there a place to post questions about plugin development? Well maybe this is a website question. I posted a plugin and made an error when I posted the release. I cannot change the version number and I cant delete the release. How do I correct this issue?
How does one update a question's status?
I asked a Q in the Using jQuery forum, received two answers, which I marked as "answering the question", but the status shows "Working On It". Who controls the status setting? moderators? I thought the status should switch to "answered" once I selected an answer, but it didn't. I selected one answer as "best"... to see if that would help. Now there is a green checkbox, but the status is still "Working On It", which seems a bit counter intuitive: a green check and "working on it".
14 Days of jQuery Feedback
Now that the 14 Days of jQuery are over we are relaxing a little and taking a breath. While we catch our breath why not let us know what you thought of jQuery14.com . Would you like us to offer an online conference like this in the future? What was your favorite day? What was your favorite video? Which release were you most excited to hear about? Which episode of the jQuery Podcast is your favorite? Which yayQuery podcast cohost is the funniest? What could we improve upon in future conferences?
Avatars resized in browser
It looks like various avatars are resized in the browser, eg. this one is displayed as 39x39 on the overview pages. Cripples loading time even more, as those images also lack propery cache headers (instead comes with Cache-Control: no-cache).
Not-logged-in warning
The combination of allowing guest-posts and having remember-me not quite working leads to a lot of Guest-posts (requiring moderation) that should have been regular posts (not requiring moderation). That just happened to me, at least I could log in and delete my own post, replacing it with a proper reply. I'm not convinced of the merits of allowing guest posts. Assuming we keep those, how about big note about posting-as-a-guest?
number-of-replies is not necessarily accurate
I was looking for "Unreplied Posts" and saw this one: http://forum.jquery.com/topic/accessing-a-div-appended-to-a-another-div However, that post has several replies. As a sanity check, the 'number-of-replies' in the forum list is inaccurate as well...
Blue menu bar mostly not working?
'All Forums', 'Recent Posts', 'My Account' seem to be NOP's except on the main forum page.
Changing my registered email
I originally registered in the google groups using my work email, but had my updates sent to my personal email. now it seems that my work email is permanent (cant change it in settings), so i cant have access to it from home. any way to change this without creating a new account?
changing name
So i was looking through "My Account" but couldnt find a way to change my name here on forums. This one that i got when you moved data from google groups to zoho forums is annoying me... =)
Changing password
I can't find where to change my password. Can it be done? -- Rob
RSS Feed - Broken by design?
I use Thunderbird. I've installed a plugin that allows me to retrieve the RSS feed from this forum, but there is a problem. Basically, the RSS feed is broken by design. The HTML provided to Thunderbird includes this bit of CSS: #content { display: none;and in case you didn't guess, the actual posts in the RSS feed display in the div with id="content" so I'm at a loss to determine whether this is simple oversight/ignorance malicious mischief since I brought it up hours ago on the old mailing list.
It's getting better
Just wanted to drop a thank you in amongst all our complaints, for your efforts to improve and resolve the forum 'quirks.' Don
Many Issues with Jquery Forum..
hi , i am having alot of "permission" issues and "page not found" , with jquery forum... sometimes a page loads when i press on "replies" and sometimes when i press on the topic name... am useing my google/gmail account... how to solve this???? thanks
Issues with forum
I have the following issues with the forum: Posting: when posting, the default forum should be the one I'm in when selecting "new post". I shouldn't have to select it every time. Quoting: quotes are awful. The giant double quote looks silly and takes up too much space. There is no mark for the end of the quote, and quoted text looks just like other text. There is no way to automatically quote the message I'm replying to. Back navigation: it's broken - previous pages must be reloaded all the time.
image-rendering: optimizeQuality;
How about adding this for the avatar images so they look a little better in Firefox? https://developer.mozilla.org/En/CSS/image-rendering And maybe even this for IE? -ms-interpolation-mode: bicubic; --Travis
jQuery API browser tabbing
Hi, this is not really about the forum, but about the API browser. I like its functionality to jump from one method to the other using tab or arrows keys. But I think it should not overwrite the Cntrl-Tab and Cntrl-Shift-Tab key combinations. This prevents you from switching between tabs on Google Chrome. ... Sorry, I guess this is the nastiest issue report I've ever written...
Why isn't there a Plugin Authoring section in this forum?
This is a major mistake. Please add that. There are folks like me who have to figure out how to enable instance chaining for method calls when making a plugin. I could not find any information on that on the web of any value. This is what I came up with and would like to get feedback on this forum: http://joonhachu.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html Please add this section as its a freakin' injustice not to have something for jQuery plugin authors to meet and discuss implementation style. You guys

why do some messages await moderation?
Sometimes when I post I get a message that the topic is awaiting moderation and sometimes I don't, but I don't see any difference between the posts. Am I missing something? I haven't seen any non jQuery posts or flame wars so I wonder what the intermittent moderation notice is for.
Inline code
Inline code formatting is standard in many editors on forums like this — there are a lot of times when it's handy to include a short snippet of code or function name in a sentence without breaking it up. Is that possible in this editor? If not, it'd be a nice feature.
Clicking on a link for the same hash-based URL
This is best explained via an example. Different browsers handle this differently, but at least in Firefox... Click on 'Recent Posts'. When the page has finished loading, click the same link again. The page will not reload. For all hash-based links, you need something like: $("a[href*='#']").click( function() { if ( $(this).attr("href") == window.location.href ) { window.location.reload(true); return false; } }); Assuming hrefs contain absolute paths, of course.
ER: Support "Open in new tab" in the search results page
This major problem with Zoho search absolutely needs to be fixed soon. Steps to reproduce: 1) Do a forum search. Observe: a list eventually comes-up 2) Now, process the list which, by the way, gives you little or no search-string context usage. Observation: Guys, we are in 2010. Google has been doing this for years. Your search results implementation is very, very weak. You need to show more, an example of the match. Small text is OK. 3) Ctrl+click to "open in new tab" with the intent to look-at
RSS feed for the Plugins forge
I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but to my mind there is no one that matches better. I would love to see a rss feed for the plugins forge..
problems confirming email
i can't find the option to confirm my email. please help. thanks.
What do I do if I already registered an account with zoho and got the email about using my google groups one?
When the jquery group was imported here I went and made a zoho account(this one), but after two days I got an email telling me about the move and asking me to create an account using my google groups account with all my discussions saved. So what can I do? can you import the posts from this one to that one and delete this one or just delete this one? Thanks.
back link doesn't work
